Beginner River Class;Learn effective paddling techniques & paddle strokes in our Kayak Classes.

Course starts with an evening or afternoon lake session and progresses to full days on the Colorado river. You will learn effective paddling techniques, paddle strokes, river reading skills, bracing, ferries, eddy turns, peel outs, surfing, personal and group safety techniques.  Two day class consists of one lake session and one full river day($169).  Three day has one extra day on the river for only $99 more! (3 students required for the extra day) The extra day on the river makes a big difference in developing skills and building confidence.  If you have the time, DO IT!!

Beginner River Class is offered 4 times a week all summer long!

Mon/Tues class- evening lake/ full day river

Sit-on-top Kayak Trip
Enroll now in our Whitewater Kayaking Class in Colorado!1/2 day trips on the beautiful Upper Colorado River.  Each person paddles their own sit-on-top whitewater kayak through class I & II whitewater.  All equipment and transportation from Alpine Kayak is provided.

Maximum of 12 people per trip. Minimum of 2.

**(Must be at least 12 years old and accompanied be an adult)**

Length of Activity:1/2 Day on the Upper Colorado River

  • 4 hours total time from pick-up to drop-off
  • 2 hours are spent on the river

Pick-up times: 9:00am & 2:00pm

Days: Trips offered 7 days a week

Cost: $79.00ea (3 or more) 2 only- $95ea

One-Day Intensive Beginner Class

Private class rates apply: 1-$275, 2- $215 each, 3+ $189 each.

All equipment and transportation provided.

Beginner Lake Class
A fun and inexpensive introduction to kayaking.  Beginner skills will be covered on a nearby lake.  All equipment provided.  Weekends and weekdays from May through September.  $59 a session. 3 - 4 hours. Thursday afternoons, Monday, Friday and Saturday nights. Look at beginner schedule, first day is the lake session or call 926-3867.  You can go right to a day on the river for an additional $110 after completing the lake class.

Private Lessons

Receive more personalized instruction and attention with a private lesson.  A lower student to instructor ratio translates into faster progression.  As you progress, try many different river sections from Class I to IV.  Private lessons allow you to choose the techniques and skills that you need to focus on.

Intermediate River Class
Advanced strokes and techniques will be introduced and practiced in faster moving water, Class will also include surfing, strategies for running rapids, river reading skills, paddle stroke analysis, bracing in current, catching small eddies and rolling in current. This course will definitely build your skills and confidence.
Alpine Quest Sports kayaking class in colorado also offers classes for advanced students.
Shoshone Advanced River Class
Learn to run Class III, surf bigger waves and the latest play-boating skills on the Shoshone Rapids in Glenwood canyon. ½ or full day trips available,

Private lesson rates per person
1 person $275; 2 people $215each; 3 + people $189ea

Private lesson lake rates per person (2-3 hours): 1 person $99; 2 people $79ea; 3+ $59ea

Transportation and lunch can be arranged upon request.

All of our lead instructors have ACA instructor certification, Swiftwater rescue training, 1st aid and CPR. Our guides are friendly, patient and experienced.

All equipment is provided. Wetsuit, paddle jacket, helmet, paddle, PFD, spray skirt & kayak.

Learn to roll the right way the first time!

Learn to roll.  By taking a class you will avoid developing bad habits and rolling will be much easier.  We will teach you the sweep or C to C roll.  We can also teach you an offside, hand or back deck roll.  Learn to roll the correct and efficient way.  We have taught over 3000 students how to roll.  Our progression works!

Paddle Club:

Anyone who has taken a beginner river class with Alpine Kayak may participate in Beginner Paddle Club.

For those who finished our Beginner Kayak Classes you are invited to join us at Paddle club!Once you have completed a beginner course with Alpine Kayak, come join us at paddle club!  This twice a week clinic is a great way to improve upon the skills you have already learned.  Instructors paddle with the club to offer tips on how to improve your boating.  This is a casual atmosphere is a great way to meet others at your same ability and to get out on the river.  Paddle any of our available rental boats, including the 2007 Dagger, Perception, Pyranha, Wave Sport, Liquid Logic and Jackson Kayak demos.  This is a great way to try out new boats to see which one is right for you.

If you would like to join us every week, we suggest a season pass.  For $159 you can come to as many paddle clubs as you like for the entire 2009 season.

This is class III Paddle Club.  This is not a class, just a group of friends getting together to go paddle local rivers!!

You must already possess Class III kayaking skills and have a reliable river roll.  If you are interested in learning to kayak class III we suggest a intermediate class or a private lesson.

Instructor Workshop ACA

 

This 3-Day ACA class is for those individuals looking to get certified in whitewater kayak instructing or otherwise improve their own paddling skills & techniques.

The American Canoe Association program for River Kayaking offers individuals the opportunity to become Instructors in Basic River Kayak, Whitewater Kayak or Advanced Whitewater Kayak.

Each level is more complex and includes a level of difficulty and skills proportionally more advanced than the one before. Instructors may teach preceding levels, including Intro to Kayak and Quickstart courses.

The Basic River Kayak Instructor Certification Dedicated to Instructors who will teach on water up to and including Class I on the International Scale of River Difficulty. Instructors are authorized to teach in a river environment and to teach students fundamental river skills including boat handling, paddling technique, identifying hazards, river reading and self- rescues in moving water.

The Whitewater Kayak Instructor Developed for those interested in teaching whitewater kayaking in water up through Class II. The Whitewater Kayak Instructor will teach rolling and river skills adapted to the demanding environment of whitewater.

End of season Westwater Trip
September 2009
A great way to end the summer with some great friends.  Come paddle beautiful Westwater Canyon of the Colorado River.  This is not a commercial trip.  No cost involved.  Must possess Class III paddling skills and be approved by an Alpine Kayak instructor to attend.  Space is limited.

Teva Mountain Games - Vail, Colorado
June 4-7, 2009
Both professional and amateur athletes will compete in various kayaking events ranging from the Dagger Kayak PaddleCross – where boaters will race against the clocks down class IV rapids, to the most skilled boaters competing in the Paddler Magazine Extreme Creek Race. Additionally kayakers will compete in the “8” Ball which is comparable to “American Gladiators” – boaters will sprint 200 meters down river while over coming human obstacles. The Teva Pro Kayak Rodeo is another event where boaters get to show off their moves in front of both the judges and the crowd. Lastly, is the East vs West Amateur Kayak Rodeo will place the top two male and one female boaters from Golden and Vail to compete against each for the “Battle of Water Rights”
 

First Descents - a kayak camp for young adults with cancer
July 26- Aug 1 and Aug 2- 8, 2009
First Descents is a free, seven-day kayak camp for young adults with cancer. Started by professional kayaker and Nike ACG athlete Brad Ludden, First Descents uses kayaking and other outdoor activities to help campers face challenges and overcome obstacles associated with living with cancer in a fun and supportive environment.

"For kayakers, a first descent is the first successful navigation of a river or creek. At the First Descents camps, we teach young adults to kayak and help them gain the confidence to successfully navigate the obstacles of life with cancer." --Brad Ludden
 


All or part of this operation is conducted on Public Lands under special permit from the Bureau of Land Management.
