Instructor Positions

Instructor Requirements

There are a number of qualifications that we look for when we hire kayak instructors. We suggest that all applicants review the following list. This will help you decide if you have the necessary skills, personality and experience to join our team.

• Ability to work in a fast-paced, multi-tasking environment
• Possess excellent people skills in the areas of communication, customer service and compassion
• Strong ability to connect one-on-one with people of all ages, interests and backgrounds
• Passion for kayaking and being outdoors
• A 'leader' personality
• Excellent endurance and stamina (capable of handling long days of work)
• Detailed oriented
• Strong problem solving skills (ability to be decisive and resourceful)
• Swiftwater Rescue Certified
• Current First Aid (Wilderness First Responder (WFR) preferred)
• Valid Drivers License with a good record
• Current CPR
• Current ACA (American Canoe Association) whitewater kayak instructor certification (lead instructors). Assistant instructors are expected to get certified within 2 months of hire.  We will train you.
• Previous kayaking instructing or raft guiding experience a plus
• Class IV kayaking skills

Sales & Marketing Internship

Alpine Kayak Summer, 2013 Internship Opportunities    Position Filled

Alpine Kayak has one opening for an intern for summer 2014 at our Edwards, Colorado location. This position is ideal for a Freshman to Junior year college student majoring in sales/ marketing, outdoor leadership or related discipline, who is interested in gaining diverse experience with a leading kayak school and retailer during the upcoming summer.

The Intern will work daily with the retail staff, kayak instructors and the company owner on a variety of projects promoting and selling Alpine Kayak and its services and products to the public.

Typical projects include: developing and implementing a summer marketing plan; hotel & tourism sales; retail sales; web marketing.

The Intern will work independently in the field and with our retail staff in the store. This position is both field and office intensive.

Ideal applicants will be well organized, highly motivated, and are expected to bring a positive attitude and a genuine interest in learning about the retail sales & tourism industry. Strong customer service and personal computer skills are essential; specifically, we require excellent working knowledge of Microsoft Word & Excel. Experience with MS FrontPage, Photoshop & Fireworks is a plus. This position has a casual dress code. Some light manual labor may be required when in the field. Position is offered as full time, 30-40hrs/ week. Days & hours will vary week to week depending upon activities planned. Retail Positions

Currently, Alpine Quest Sports is hiring full-time year round applicants for its Vail & Edwards, CO retail locations. Candidates will be outgoing, have previous retail sales experience, detailed knowledge of kayaking, climbing, telemark & backcountry skiing and related gear, strong customer service and computer skills.
