Gear that I love for Alpine Touring
As a mom and part owner of the shop I don't have a lot of time to get out on my gear. I have to squeeze in a few hours here and there each week to enjoy the outdoors. For those few hours I want to get in a good workout, enjoy the beauty around me and wear out my dog Kona!
For skis and bindings, I am loving the Dynafit Baltoro with the TLT Superlite bindings. This is a lighter setup so I don't have extra weight to drag up the hill but these skis are stiff and wide enough to get me safely sown. I don't feel chatter under me on the way down which makes me feel secure in any conditions. I do use the Dynafit skins made for these skis and I find them easy to use especially removing them, I don't have to struggle at all!
I am always cold and when I started AT I would way overdress. Now with a few years behind me I realize how quickly I heat up! I wear the Mammut Tatramar Pants with just Smartwool boxers under and Darn Tough socks. For the top I wear a Patagonia Capilene Midweight top and the Mammut Botnica Jacket. I always have a lightweight shell or down jacket and a hat in my pack. For gloves I stay light with the Dynafit Mercury, but for cold days I have a pair of Black Diamond Mercury Mitts just in case.
Even if you don't have a lot of time I would recommend trying alpine touring. If you love to hike or snowshoe, you'll find the same solitude and workout in AT with the bonus of some skiing!
